Botanical updates for Gabon including new species

Plusieurs nouvelles études taxonomiques ont été conduites sur la flore du Gabon, révélant de nouvelles espèces :

Une nouvelle espèce de Dracaena du Gabon a été décrite (Dracaena longipetiolata) (Mwachala and Fischer, 2013). Une deuxième nouvelle espèce de Dracaena du Cameroun a été également décrite dans le même article.

Une nouvelle espèce de Cyperus (Cyperus inselbergensis, Cyperaceae) a été décrite dans les inselbergs du Gabon et du Cameroun (Lye, 2013).

Une nouvelle espèce de Torenia (Torenia daubyi, Linderniaceae) a été décrite au Gabon (Fischer and Lachenaud, 2013).

Quatre nouvelles espèces de Campylospermum (C. auriculatum, C. gabonensis, C. gabonensis subsp. australis, C. glaucifolium and C. occidentalis) ont été décrites, toutes endémiques ou sub-endemiques du Gabon (Bissiengou et al., 2013). Des spécimens de Haplocoelum gabonicum (Sapindaceae) des Monts de Cristal et de la République du Congo ont été réexaminés et attribués à un autre genre et renommés Blighiopsis gabonica (Hopkins 2013).

Une révision du genre Cuviera (Rubiacea) a été faite sur des spécimens du bassin du Congo, notamment du Gabon et du Cameroun (Verstraete et al., 2013). Cuveria a été divisé en deux genres : Cuviera et Globulostylis ; comprenant 10 et huit espèces respectivement.

Des échantillons d’herbarium de Sibangea arborescens collectés au Gabon ont été analysés dans une étude des structures florales et de la systématique des Putranjivaceae (Matthews and Endress, 2013).

Several new taxonomic studies have been conducted on the flora of Gabon, revealing new species:

A new species of Dracaena from Gabon has been described (Dracaena longipetiolata) (Mwachala and Fischer, 2013). A second new species of Dracaena from Cameroon is also described in the same article.

A new species of Cyperus (Cyperus inselbergensis, Cyperaceae) has been described from the inselbergs of Gabon and Cameroon (Lye, 2013).

A new species of  Torenia (Torenia daubyi, Linderniaceae) has been described from Gabon (Fischer and Lachenaud, 2013).

Four new species of Campylospermum (C. auriculatum, C. gabonensis, C. gabonensis subsp. australis, C. glaucifolium and C. occidentalis have been described, all endemic or sub-endemic to Gabon (Bissiengou et al., 2013). Distribution maps and preliminary IUCN assessments are provided in the article.

Specimens of Haplocoelum gabonicum (Sapindaceae) from the Mont de Cristal and R.Congo have been re-examined, allocated to another genus and renamed Blighiopsis gabonica (Hopkins 2013).

A revision of the genus Cuviera (Rubiacea) has been conducted among specimens from the Congo Basin, including Gabon and Cameroon (Verstraete et al., 2013). Cuviera has been split into two genera: Cuviera and Globulostylis; with 10 and 8 species represented respectively.

Herbarium samples of Sibangea arborescens collected in Gabon have been analysed in a study of the floral structure and systematics of Putranjivaceae (Matthews and Endress, 2013).
