New data on Gabonese flora

Quatre nouvelles études botaniques ont été publiées dans la revue Plant Ecology and Evolution de Mars 2013 par nos partenaires de l'Herbier national, Missouri Botanical Gardens, l’Université Libre du Bruxelles et l'UICN. La première étude décrit une nouvelle espèce endémique de la forêt de la Mondah; Psychotria wieringae (Lachenaud et al, 2013a). Dans la seconde, une révision  synoptique de 9 espèces du genre Uapaca dans la forêt guinéo-congolaise a été menée, avec une mise à jour des clés d'identification (Breteler, 2013). Uapaca niangadoumae, espèce  également endémique à la forêt de la Mondah a été décrite pour la première fois en 2012 par le même auteur. La troisième étude qui met l’accent sur la flore du Cameroun, décrit également des extensions d’aires de distribution de plusieurs espèces de plantes présentes au Gabon (Lachenaud et al., 2013B). La quatrième étude décrit une nouvelle espèce de Kalaharia (Kalaharia schaijesii), dont la distribution qui s’étend à travers les savanes d'Afrique centrale et se limite plus à l’ouest dans les Plateaux Batéké (Bamps, 2013).

Four new botanical studies were published in the March 2013 issue of Plant Ecology and Evolution by our partners at the National Herbarium, Missouri Botanical Gardens, Université Libre du Bruxelles and IUCN. The first describes a new species endemic to the Mondah forest; Psychotria wieringae (Lachenaud et al., 2013a).  In the second, a revision of the 9 Uapaca species in the Guniea-Congolian forest was conducted, with an updated identification key (Breteler, 2013). One species, Uapaca niangadoumae is also endemic to Mondah and was first described in 2012 by the same author.  Range extensions for several plant species found in Gabon are described in a third study that focuses on the flora of Cameroon (Lachenaud et al., 2013b). In a fourth, a new species of Kalaharia (Kalaharia schaijesii) has been described, which ranges across savannahs in central Africa and extends its most western limits to the Batéké Plateaux (Bamps, 2013)
